How Long Does a New Website Project Take?

Most website design projects take around three months from start to launch. Every project is different, though, and we’ll establish a schedule together based on the size and complexity of your website, your goals, and any specific timing requirements you may have.

Throughout the project, we’ll keep things moving, communicate what we need from you, and make sure you always know what comes next. A successful timeline is a collaborative effort, and there are a few things that can help keep your project on track.

Meetings & Communication

We’ll schedule conversations at key points throughout the project. Being able to coordinate those meetings in a timely manner helps us maintain momentum and move smoothly from one phase to the next.

Content & Photography

Great websites need great content. Gathering copy, photography, staff information, service details and other materials is often one of the biggest variables in a project timeline.

We’ll help you identify what we need and when we need it so you can plan accordingly. And if you need help organizing or developing your website content, we can help with that, too.

Feedback & Approvals

Your input is an important part of our process. We’ll build specific opportunities for feedback into the project schedule and give you clear guidance about what we need you to review.

Providing feedback and approvals on schedule helps us maintain momentum and keep your anticipated launch date on track.

Changes Along the Way

Sometimes new ideas or requirements emerge once a project is underway — and that’s okay.

If something changes, let us know as early as possible. We’ll talk through how it affects the project and determine the best way to incorporate it while minimizing any impact on the schedule.

What Can Affect Your Website Timeline?

Three months is a good general guideline, not a one-size-fits-all deadline.

A smaller website with content that’s ready to go may move more quickly. A larger website with extensive content, custom functionality, multiple decision-makers or integrations with other systems may take longer.

If you have a particular launch date in mind — an event, business opening, rebranding, campaign or other deadline — let us know at the beginning of the project. We can talk about what’s realistic and build the project schedule accordingly.

A Timeline That Works for Everyone

Our goal isn’t simply to finish your website quickly. It’s to keep the project moving efficiently while giving both of us the time needed to make thoughtful decisions and do great work.

We understand that our clients have businesses and organizations to run, and that your website project isn’t the only thing competing for your attention.

We’ll build a realistic schedule, stay in communication throughout the process, and work together toward a successful launch.

And you’ll always know where things stand, what we’re working on, and what we need from you to keep moving forward.
